Deus Est Neuro Rehabilitation Center and Clinics
Together with our reasearch partners and Insurances, DENRCC Deus Est Neuro Rehabilitation Center and Clinics, we host the Rwanda’s only specialized neurological rehabilitation center for people with diseases, injury or disorders of the nervous system.
Since its formation in 2020, the neurological rehabilitation center will be dedicated to Adults and children’s healthcare and to finding new and better ways to restore the function of nervous system as much as possible, to optimize everyday activities and to achieve social participation to the highest degree possible.
VISION
• To be pioneers and the leading neurological center in the Country and Region, in the field of neurological rehabilitation.
• To provide quality care to the patients and emphasize on qualitative approaches to patient care through clinic services, equipment and research
• To be able to explore and manage all aspects of neurological and neuro-muscular disorders consequences (Cognitive, motricity, respiratory, nutritional, metabolic, Genito-urinary and neuropathic pain) with the help of the latest equipment in the area (functional MRI, Gait Laboratory , neuro-electrophysiology laboratory, pulmonary function explorations and indirect calorimetry laboratory and urodynamic laboratory) aiming to restore at the maximum our patient autonomy.

WHAT IS NEURO-REHABILITATION
Neuro-Rehabilitation is a complex process designed to help treat patients with nervous system or neurological diseases. Rehabilitation programmes aims to aid recovery from a nervous system injury such as stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), peripheral nerve injuries (PNI), etc.
NEUROSCIENCES
Neuroscience (or neurobiology) is the scientific study of the nervous system. The neuroscience department at Deus Est Medical Clinic deals with conditions affecting the brain, eyes, speech, swallowing and limbs.
NEUROLOGY
The neurology department at Deus Est Medical Clinic deals with a number of medical conditions including epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis (MS).
CLINICAL NEUROPSYCHOLOGY
Clinical neuropsychology is based on the science behind brain-behaviour relationships, and it examines how the structure and function of the brain relate to psychological processes.
Neuropsychological assessments are an objective way of quantifying and characterising the cognitive, behavioural and emotional effects of the changes in brain function that can occur after damage, or with disease, affecting the brain.
NEUROPHYSIOLOGY
The neurophysiology department at Deus Est Neuro Rehabilitation Center and Clinics is part of our neuroscience team, looking after nervous system disorders and muscle diseases. Our neurophysiology department deals with epilepsy, sleeping disorders or nervous system disorders affecting peripheral nerves.
REHABILITATION PROGRAMMES
Our rehabilitation programmes are provided to enable people to regain (partial or full) independence in everyday activities. The multidisciplinary team will address physical, cognitive (thinking), perceptual, communication and psychosocial (mood and social) performance in order to optimise independence and quality of life.
Interventions may include:
- acquired brain injury rehabilitation and condition management including trauma, encephalitis, anoxia, meningitis, vasculitis, toxic causes etc.
- assessment, rehabilitation and condition management for progressive neurological conditions, including multiple sclerosis and motor neuron disease
- spasticity management, including casting, splinting and positioning for spasticity management and prevention of contractures
- basic environmental control assessments in collaboration with regional environmental control service
- complex seating assessments – jointly with the wheelchair service
- specialist vocational rehabilitation assessment and intervention – in-reach and community follow up as required
- in-patient and day attendance programmes can be provided and are individually designed according to identified need
- a range of therapeutic groups such as psychological strategies group cognitive aids workshop, brain injury education group.
